2.6.4. Drive belt


1. Belts of the drive of the generator, pump of the power steering and conditioner which sometimes simply call "ventilatory" belts, are on the right side of the engine on the car course. Operation of all engine in general very strongly depends on a state and the correct adjustment of a tension of a belt of the drive of the generator. Because of constant loadings there is a pulling of belts over time and the state them worsens. Therefore, belts should be checked periodically.
2. The quantity of the belts established on the car depends on type of the engine and on a car complete set. One of belts is intended for the drive of the generator and the pump of cooling liquid. If the car is equipped with the conditioner and the power steering, for the drive of these units two more belts are added.
3. Stop the engine and, having opened a cowl, find drive belts. Examine, having lit with a small lamp, each belt. Check existence of peeling of the rubber pasted slip on both parties of a basis of a belt, a basis anguish on end faces of a tape of a belt, hardening of a basis, a separation or damages of separate paths of a rubber slip, damages of all ridge structure of a surface of a belt (cracks, a separation and wear of paths).
4. Check also existence of wear and vitrification of material of a belt owing to which on a belt luster is observed. It is necessary to examine a belt from both parties for what it should be overwound. If the surface of a belt is inaccessible to survey, the state can be tested to the touch. At detection of any of above-mentioned defects replace a belt.
5. For check of a tension of a belt the next way is recommended. Strongly press a belt a thumb approximately in the middle between pulleys and check belt deflection depth. Measure by a ruler the belt deflection size which has to be about 6,0 mm at distance of pulleys from 170 to 280 mm between centers, or about 13,0 mm if distance of pulleys from 300 to 400 mm between centers.

Adjustment of a tension and replacement

1. Two ways depending on the belt location are applied to regulation of a tension. On all cars for adjustment of a tension of a belt of the drive of the generator it is necessary to weaken assembly and adjusting bolts, to shift the generator on the necessary distance a hand, or rotating an adjusting bolt then to check a belt tension in the way described above. Upon termination of adjustment tighten assembly and adjusting bolts.
2. Whether for regulation of a tension of other belts at first check there is on the belt course a roller of a natyazhitel. If the roller is provided, weaken a lock-nut of a roller and rotate an adjusting bolt. Check a belt tension in the way described above. Achieve the correct tension of a belt then tighten a roller lock-nut. If the roller is not provided, the tension of a belt is regulated by shift of a pump housing of the hydraulic booster. Release a bolt of fastening of the pump in an arm groove, displace the pump from the engine (if the belt has to be pulled, or towards the engine if the belt has to be weakened). Upon termination of adjustment tighten a bolt.
3. For replacement of a belt execute the procedure described above for adjustment of a belt, take off a belt from pulleys. To take off a belt from the car it can be necessary at first to take off that belt which is located outside. As degree of wear of belts is approximately identical, for elimination of such inconvenience it is expedient to change all belts at the same time. Before removal apply tags on pulleys and on belts to facilitate installation of new belts on their appointment.
4. At acquisition take with yourself the taken-off belts to pick up new belts for length, width and a profile.
5. When replacing be convinced that paths of a new belt precisely came into pulley flutes. The belt has to settle down strictly on the center of a pulley, shift is not allowed to the periphery of a pulley.
6. Adjust a belt tension in the way described above.
